The performance of JBL's Project Everest
DD66000 speaker system surprised us (the speaker is priced between $60,000 and
$70,000/pair depending on finish). When we first entered the room and saw the horn
loading, large woofers, and retro styling, we expected a sound reminiscent of a speaker
designed decades ago. But looks can deceive. The DD66000 has a thoroughly modern sound,
with clean, detailed mids, extraordinarily extended highs, powerful bass that's
ultra-tight, and seemingly limitless dynamic range. Obviously, this new speaker system
holds tremendous promise, and with the unique styling, outstanding build quality and
exceptional sound, it'll certainly find an audience. Rounding out the system was a Lexicon
RT-20 universal player, a Mark Levinson No.32 Reference preamp, a Mark Levinson No.433
power amplifier, and Siltech cabling.
