The JansZen Model One...

Even after chugging a $7 milkshake, Jeff Fritz was dwarfed by the seven-foot-tall, 500-pound PBN Montana Master Reference speakers ($85,000/pair including controller and one amplifier), which have four 18" powered subwoofers.

Bryston's James Tanner is shown here with a prototype of his company's upcoming DM-1 CD player, which will be priced at $2500 with optional separate power supply. The reason that the power supply is optional is that it's possible to use the DM-1, as well as a soon-to-be-announced transport and DAC, with existing separate Bryston power supplies.

Erik Kroner and Stephen Ponte lift a 13 1/2" SV Sound driver that the company uses in its Ultra series of subwoofers. The driver's cone has a foam core that's sandwiched by laminated fiberglass skins. [www.svsound.com]

On the final afternoon of the show, this is what one of the main hallways at the Sands looked like. We almost expected to see a tumbleweed roll by. While the 29th floor of the Venetian Tower was packed, traffic on the upper floors of the Sands was often very light. The Tower will be the place to be in 2008.

Ralph Karsten debuted the new-look MA-1 Mk III amps ($13,600/pair) in his room at THE Show. A row of awards made it hard to see the Silent Running Audio platforms underneath the amps.
