Series 1

The Audioengine AW2 wireless transmitter will reportedly stream digital information to the unit's receiver -- all for $169. We were surprised that the transmitter could access the iPod's digital bitstream -- Wadia's 170iTransport was supposedly the only product able to do this. But we were told each time we asked that the AW2 can as well.

According to people at HeadRoom, Denon's AH-D7000 headphones ($999) measure an octave lower in the bass than any other 'phones they've tested. The '7000s may also be the most comfortable headphones we've tried. You won't want to take them off!

The Plamokit BSKT011 ($600) is a complete speaker kit in a box. It includes everything needed to make a pair of very nice two-way monitors with multi-layer birch cabinets. The company has other similar kits, including one for a pair of computer speakers.

Owners of a TW-Acustic turntable with multiple tonearms no longer need to plug in and unplug tonearm cables or have to own multiple phono stages. The company's new all-tube Raven Phono ($9000) has three inputs and six different load adjustments.

The Virtue Audio Audiophile. One ($249 plus $29 for an upgraded power supply) is a single-input stereo digital integrated amp that uses the discontinued Tripath chipset to produce 30Wpc. As such products go, it seems especially well built, and its interchangeable outer cover comes in a variety of colors. It is also switchable to mono, which increases its output power to 75 watts.

Also from Virtue Audio is the slightly larger Sensation M451 integrated ($519), which uses Tripath chips as well, this time to produce 40 watts in stereo or 80 watts in mono. You can pick the finish for the sides and top, customizing the unit's look.
