The Fatman iTube 452 ($3499) is a beautifully
made stereo integrated amp that uses 6L6 output tubes to produce 45Wpc. An iPod dock is
optional equipment, and there was talk that the amp could also be used with EL34s -- one
of the sweetest output tubes there is.
Also from Fatman is the Red-I ($500), an
all-in-one system that marries old-school tubes with the iPod. Add an inexpensive
universal player and a turntable, and you have practically every format covered.
TEAC's AG-H600NT receiver and PD-H600 CD
player are sold together for $1999. The receiver is Internet ready via WiFi or Ethernet
connectivity, and the CD player has some touches reminiscent of TEAC's Esoteric brand,
including 24-bit/192kHz DACs, an independent circuit for its master clock, and a rigid
aluminum chassis.
Boston Audio's new Vista floorstanding
speakers appear to offer a lot for their $1699 price, including a trio of woofers and a
beautifully finished, curvy cabinet. There are bookshelf/surround speakers, a center-channel speaker,
and a
subwoofer in this distinctive-looking line.
Though its name is not quite set yet, the
latest version of the Anthem Statement D2 preamp/processor ($7999) has some significant
upgrades, including eight HDMI 1.3c inputs and two outputs, along with "better than
ever" video algorithms. [www.anthemav.com]
Brand new from Anthem is the Integrated 225
($1499), a 225Wpc stereo integrated amp that includes tone controls, a headphone jack and
moving-magnet phono stage -- just like the integrateds of yore. [www.anthemav.com]
