Gryphon is one of those companies
that almost always seems to manage excellent sound at the shows.
At High End this year, Gryphon used a pair of the
first-time-ever-shown Atlantis, a five-driver, three-way floorstander priced at
22,000. The Atlantis speakers were driven by the companys Diablo integrated
amplifier ( 9700), and the source was the well-known Mikado CD player (
10,800). Even the cabling and furniture were by Gryphon.
Fleming Rasmussen of Gryphon played the system quite loud,
and the sound was lively, dynamic, full range, and exceptionally detailed. A system like
this should find a home with the highest of high-end audiophiles. Jeff Fritz stated,
"With what I heard today from this entry-level Gryphon system, I know I could live
happily ever after without thinking about another upgrade." That about sums it up.
