I felt a little overwhelmed on the first day of CES, but today I found my bearings and started noticing a lot more products of great interest. First thing in the morning I hit the booths of the major electronics giants: Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Hitachi and Samsung. Common themes among all of them were wireless speakers, HDMI capabilities and a much greater emphasis on style and design. It looks like the days of the rectangular box are just about over.

Having covered the Las Vegas Convention Center in what must be record time -- a day and a half -- this afternoon was spent on the top three floors of the Venetian Hotel, where a great many audio manufacturers have set up displays and demos. The Venetian is huge, with the hallways of each of the hotel’s three wings running at least the length of a football field. But the distances didn’t seem so great because I was drawn to what seemed like every second room as I passed down the halls. Why every second room? Because I’ve got two more days here and there are a ton of manufacturers I’ve yet to visit.
